What is the difference between a denture and an overdenture?

If you have tooth loss, you might be in the research phase of determining the best solution for your smile. Dentures are a time-tested way to replace missing teeth and give you a full smile again. Dentures, like most things, have advanced in both appearance and function. Overdentures are one improvement many people are grateful for.

Dentures and Partial Dentures

Full dentures use your palate and bony ridge to stay in place. Partial dentures clasp to your remaining teeth. Like all of our dentistry, we strive to provide natural-looking dentistry that complements your features.

Benefits of dentures and partials:

  • Non-surgical option
  • More affordable

Overdentures (Implant-Retained Dentures)

Overdentures rely on several dental implants to hold the denture in place, typically between 2-6 per arch. Because dental implants are fixed, so is your denture when you snap it into the dental implant attachments. This keeps your denture locked in when you eat and laugh.

Benefits of overdentures:

  • Stable and immobile
  • Improved dietary choices

Because no two patients are the same, we would like to invite you to our Mesquite, TX, dental office for an appointment with Dr. Loera. He will help you decide on a tooth-replacement option that makes the most sense for you, your lifestyle, and your budget.
